How Can You Help Israel?
During these difficult times, when we can give less to help others, the Israeli organizations that rely on U.S. donations are struggling like never before. The drop in the value of the U.S. dollar means charitable donations buy far less than in the recent past. And with food prices soaring worldwide, the numbers of truly poor, keep rising. The ripple effect from the U.S. financial crisis is devastating to charities and businesses in Israel.
Israel’s economy has recovered admirably, but there is still suffering and crushing poverty in much of the country. Self defense is expensive. Rebuilding war-ravaged lives, homes and businesses requires support. Most social services have been reduced drastically. Over 1.6 million people in Israel live below the poverty line. One in every three Israeli children is growing up poor- without enough food, without dental care, or shoes that fit. Our store , any Jewish store or Israeli product we portray is our blog is small attempt to make a difference. Our goal is to showcase high quality Israeli products easier to find and purchase for Canadian or other consumers. We urge our customers to support both America, Canadian and Israel by purchasing MADE IN U.S.A. , MADE IN CANADA and MADE IN ISRAEL products whenever possible.
UPDATE: I am including all products made in the Land of Israel, and these include products made by Israelis who live in Judea and Samaria/West Bank. There is no distinction between these goods.
I believe that if there will be peace, Israel will relinquish about 96% of the West Bank and many of the Jewish communities there will have to leave or become part of the new Palestine (to date, the Palestinians reject this possibility entirely).
However, until that day, every Israeli who lives in Judea and Samaria is living on DISPUTED land, with the support and encouragement of every Israeli government since 1967. In other words, they are not rogues or criminals and many of us recognize that while there are extremists among them, the majority of the settlers are good people who have chosen to live where they do for a variety of reasons, many of them idealistic and with a view to supporting Israel.
Collectively, the frequent purchase of Israeli products will have a broad and significant impact on the Israeli economy and Israeli citizens.
